A Gentleman's Home

Get to know Marshal Mannerheim through his home. The book A Gentleman's Home, published by the Mannerheim Foundation, contains articles by ten writers, headed by Emeritus Professor Matti Klinge, that introduce various aspects of his life's work through the medium of his home.

Apart from serving as Commander of the Finnish Armed Forces and President of Finland, Mannerheim was also an explorer, the founder of the Mannerheim Child Welfare League, a long-standing chairman of the Finnish Red Cross, a cosmopolitan who spoke numerous languages, a notable gourmet and a generous host who delighted in welcoming guests to his home.

Across Asia from West to East in 1906—1908

One hundred years ago, after having recently returned from the Russo-Japanese war, colonel Mannerheim made a legendary reconnaissance and research expedition across Asia from Samarkand to Peking. The journey, largely conducted on horseback, lasted two years. The goal of the expedition was, in addition to conducting ethnographic and natural science research, to collect military intelligence about China.

Mannerheim's detailed travel diaries and accompanying photographs are a unique collection of materials for Asia researchers and at the same time an exciting adventure for any reader. The diary appeared for the first time in 1940. This revised edition contains previously unpublished information, e.g. previously unpublished pictures selected from the more than 1200 photographs taken by Mannerheim over the course of this epic journey.

From a statue delegation to a commemorative foundation.

Infantry General Adolf Ehrnrooth played a major part in preserving the memory and traditions of the Marshal of Finland, and it was at his instigation that the Marshal Mannerheim Commemorative Foundation was founded in 1973, obtaining its initial capital from the funds handed over for this purpose by the delegation appointed to support the erecting of a monument to him in the form of an equestrian statue.

Towards the end of his life General Ehrnrooth asked the director of the Mannerheim Museum, Vera von Fersen, M.A., to write a history of the organizations that had been closely connected with the Marshal's life, and the result was this book, which is based on an interview with the General.
